Open Painting Class
Thursday Morning

Printmaking & Etching (morning class)
10-1pm Tutor: Chris Lundie. £255

Explore etching, dry point, collograph and monoprint. Whether results are found by accident or design, the capacity for spontaneity will surprise and delight you.


Line, Light, Colour, Composition from the model
10-1pm Tutor: Caroline Deane. £261

Beginners & intemediate. Giving you a solid foundation and more profound vision, into principles of sound drawing. The journey will take you through oriental line drawing, Chinese ink and wash, anatomy, composition, space, colour, perspective into simple oil sketching with slide presentations.

Mosaics (morning class)

Gain a basic understanding of mosaic processes, or continue to explore mosaics as a creative medium, portraits, patterns, or designs from photographs.

Portraits Made Personal
(morning class)
10-1pm Tutor: Valerie Wiffen ARCA. £261

Using traditional observation from the model, learn how to make personal portraits by your choices of media, interpretation and selection for emphasis, with a popular and well-established portrait painter.

Life Class & Process Techniques (morning class)

The sheer breadth and scope of ways in which artists represent the figure can be inspiring. Ways of aproaching observation from anatomical description through to mobile wire structures. Personal exploration and expression is the key. This class is for all levels, new processes will be a focus.

From Pastel Drawing to Oils, from the model

Line, light, shadow, colour, looking at east west traditions, sustained methods of recording and expression, from basic to advanced methods, Renaissance to now.

A workshop for students who have graduated in an arts subject or attended adult classes over an extended time, to develop personal concepts further, hone skills and developing work. Integrated Critiques and tutorials.

Fundamental Skills in Painting

Develop painting and drawing skills, figurative or non- figurative. A variety of projects to develop abilities and confidence with composition, design and colour.

Abstract and representational approaches to landscape, interiors and imaginative themes, gives students opportunities to develop profound personal understandings.

Portraiture & Life Painting

Students will have the chance to complete two finished paintings a term, working from the model in a theatrical setting, for several weeks. Oils or Acrylics. All levels welcome.

NEW Recycled Materials
6.30-9.30pm Tutor: Jackie Mwanza. £255

African artists have been recycling and re-using for centuries. In 2012, Ghanaian Sculptor El Anastui sold his recycled bottle tops quilt for £0.5m at Bonhams (London), marking a renaissance for art from Sub-Saharan Africa. This class explores sculpture-making using rich African traditions and the relationships it has with European art, with references to Kurt Schwitters, Pablo Picasso and other sculptors.
