Morning

Drawing and Open Painting
9:30am-12:30pm
Ake Arnerdal  £175
The class will be shown how develop their own work with the support and advice of the tutor. The work will begin by exploring a subject with several careful drawings then gradually developing the sketches onto a painting or a series of paintings.

Sculpture from Life and Portraiture
9:30am-12:30pm
Hiromi Scintu  £190*
In this class, we will model a head in clay which can be either fired or cast. There will be handouts covering all techniques and shortcuts used, some basic anatomy and pictorial references for styles and ideas.

Basic Oil Painting (Still Life)
10am–1pm
Jenny Scott  £175
Students will be helped to develop their observational skills, with measurement. Colour temperature, tone and composition will be a part of this course. You will explore still life and abstraction and be shown how to express and edit a scene in oils.

Life Painting and Drawing
10am-1pm
(Morning Class) Wynn Jones/Eva Swiderska  £190
This course will enable you to understand and appreciate the human form. You will gain confidence and expertise in drawing and painting as well as increasing your awareness and perception of form, light and space. We will explore the use of tone and colour, with quick studies as well as two or three week poses. Materials: Oil Paints.

Afternoon

Art History and Museum Visits

Estelle Lovatt  £175
Art criticism involves a specific way of looking at art and examining the characteristics of great art will enable you to appreciate it and feel confident that you know why it is important. The class will make several museum visits with the tutor. This class is also a part of our diploma course.

Silk Painting
2:30-5:30pm
Connie Wang  £175
We will explore the art of silk painting. The classes will cover all aspects of technique, design, colour and surface texture; with students learning to create the almost magical quality that can be achieved in this ancient oriental craft. The transparency of silk gives work a unique versatility.

Basic Oil Painting (Still Life)
2-5pm

Evening

Sculpture From Life
6:30-9:30pm
David Waller  £190*
We will work from a long pose with a life model. Demonstrations will be given to show the various techniques used in sculpture, which will enable you to complete a study suitable for firing in the kiln. All levels welcome.

Introduction to Drawing and Painting
6.30-9:30pm
Nigel Caple  £175
A step-by-step approach to drawing and painting for beginners. Develop your confidence by studying the effects of light, learn how to measure proportion and use a variety of techniques. We will focus on differing approaches to observational and imaginative work. Learn how to mix colours and create harmonies and contrasts. Materials: Acrylic brushes, palette, 2B pencils.

Portraiture
6.30-9:30pm Douglas Druce
  £190
We will use the model to make structured drawings in pencil, crayon and paint. The accent will be on anatomical accuracy, observing planes, tones and colour values. The class will develop the use of oil painting from Rembrandt and Van Dyke through to the Impressionists. You will investigate the materials and processes that have been used by artists throughout the centuries.

Watercolours
6.30-9:30pm Mary Treherne
  £165
This course is suitable for all levels of experience; there will be demonstrations of the various techniques used by watercolourists. The class will be working from flowers, vegetables, fungi, fruit etc. Watercolour pencils, crayons or gouache can also be used to achieve different effects.

*Extra £5 for clay and firing.
